My research focuses on plant functional biology–the physiological mechanisms of drought tolerance, the linkages between plant physiology and climate, and the evolution of plant physiological traits.  Most of my work focuses on flowers and leaves.  Two current projects on Rhododendron include (1) characterizing the evolution of floral drought tolerance and (2) the evolution of genome size and physiological traits in Vireya.
