Call for citizen scientists the Medeiros lab is looking for citizen scientists interested in working on a literature database project. We have built a literature database on Rhododendron Research using the open source platform Mendeley. We have gathered over 2500 references on Rhododendron! We need citizen scientists who have practical computer skills (data entry, google search, etc) to help us keep adding new items to our database. In particular, we have a collection of hundreds of documents dating back to the 1500's donated by Charles Andrews. We need to get these documents into our database so they can be used and enjoyed by the broader Rhododendron community. If you are interested, please contact Juliana Medeiros jmedeiros@holdenfg.org
Juliana, what a great project. This seems like exactly the sort of thing for citizen scientists or working scientists who aren't able to get into the lab / office to work on from home. It seems to me it should be easy to get helping hands for this timely call for an interesting and impactful result.
Update on this, we have been moving forward with some very dedicated volunteers from American Rhododendron Society. We've now got a library of over 2500 PDFs! There's still plenty of work to be done, and we especially need folks who are good at data entry. We welcome anyone who wants to contribute!
